What a year!
Happy Birthday to me, or more specifically, Happy Birthday to Dan Wray Photography, which is one year old today!
There is no cake smashing party (a waste of cake if you ask me!), and no big fan fare but I didn’t want the day to pass by without a little note.
Although I have been a Photographer for over 20 years, this is the first anniversary of being a self-employed Photographer full time. What a year it’s been. There have been a lot of highs, and (thankfully) very few lows. I’ve met some amazing people, seen some amazing businesses of all sizes, and I am having a great time!
I started out 12 months ago, and I challenged myself to be involved in as many different aspects of photography as I could. It’s true that most people specialise. Specialising makes it easier to market, and easier to focus (no pun intended). Nevertheless, I wanted to take some time to explore and learn. This gave me invaluable experience, honed my skills, and has helped me understand what I love to do, as well as understand better what my Customers need.
So, I’ve been involved in everything from very formal Corporate Headshots to very cute Newborn shoots. Family shoots that were lots of fun and Interiors and Fashion which were a different, but very enjoyable genre. I’ve taken pictures of the front of a B&M Store, and have had the privilege of being part of a lot of very different Wedding Days.
Thankyou to everyone who has trusted and believed in me to take their photographs, it truly has been a fantastic year. I have learnt so much and I am certainly a better photographer, marketer, accountant, admin assistant and book keeper than ever before!
So, what does the next 12 months hold?
It’s started off great! I am really looking forward to being one of the official photographers on the Sculpture Project , working for ArtUK. If you’ve never heard of it, read about it here). Technically it is challenging, and it will be fantastic to travel to places that I didn’t even know exist to search out and photograph Art, which is another one of my passions.
I also have some beautiful weddings coming up over the summer, brand photography, family shoots, more work with models and some collaborations that I am very excited about and will keep you all up to date with as they happen.
I have also got a number of personal projects that I’m very excited about. Watch this space, as I will also be blogging more. The pictures on this blog are just a few of my favourites from the last 12 months.
