All that jazz

Its been almost a month since I 'became' a freelance photographer. Everyone I meet is excited for me, maybe a little jealous that I'm doing something I love, and I'm overwhelmed that people just want to help.

So many people have given me advice........and lots of it. Over the last month I have been told "don't leave the house without business cards" and "business cards are useless, everyone is digital" Or 'websites should look like....' etc etc. I love it that when I get talking to people, they are genuinely interested in what I'm doing.

I'm just at the beginning, but one thing that I do know is that you should go with what feels right. What suits the kind of business you're trying to create (even if this isn't nailed down yet, you'll know what you don't want).

I'm not saying confuse this with staying in your comfort zone. The exact opposite! February has pushed me further than I've ever been pushed before. I have fought my inner demons, put myself in situations that up until now I would have dreaded, or even made excuses to myself not to go.

The only thing that has changed, is the reason why I'm doing it. Photography has been my passion in life for as long as I can remember, and if I'm going to make it my life, I have to do it. I have to do it for me.

I will always have worries (the mortgage doesn't pay itself), and in a perfect world, I'd like nothing better than to spend my days just taking pictures.

But to be successful, there are demons to face, and hard miles to put in. So I have also spent February learning about Business plans, tax, marketing and all that jazz. Who knows what March is going to bring........
